Survival Vendors Union of Zimbabwe ‘s Statement over the Murivo and Potato mantra by ED Mnangagwa
*Our struggle is not limited to education and meat*
Despite the several hardships that are facing, Zimbabweans, the President found it fit to discourage citizens from consuming meat, highlighting that ‘doctors’ said its not healthy.
ED was captured in a recording saying that ‘meat is not healthy, vitamins are found in vegetables and potatoes’. He recklessly said that he does not consume meet despite pictures of him feasting on a bowl full with mazondo that went viral on social media last year. He said the statement after the people had complained about meat prices that are sky rocketing, over RTGS $ 100 per Kilogram of economy beef.
He also spoke that the minister of primary and secondary education told him that school fees had not been increased in government schools, which is a blunt lie, we have Rusununguko high schools with its fees hitting the sky. Also how many government operated schools does the nation have to cater for all the students?
When addressing the people, ED ignored other challenges that are facing the people such as transport fares, ZUPCO buses are not enough and are not effective to cater for all citizens, yet commuter operators are charging high fares for local trips, ie ZWL$8 from Harare CBD to residential areas.
He also overlooked health service delivery issues. He did not mention means to address the dilapidated state in public hospitals.
